Features Overview

Technical documentation of AtomOS Playbook modifications, kernel configurations, and component removals.

Features

AtomOS is designed to maximize gaming performance by stripping Windows down to its bare essentials. It removes built-in bloatware, disables system tracking, and optimizes hardware resources to ensure your PC focuses entirely on running applications and games.

Performance

AtomOS modifies how Windows handles resources to prioritize speed and responsiveness.

Fewer Background Processes: Non-essential services are disabled or merged, drastically reducing CPU usage and freeing up RAM.
Gaming Priority: Windows is reconfigured to prioritize foreground applications, ensuring games get maximum CPU attention.
Lower Input Lag: System timers are adjusted to reduce delay and maintain consistent frame times during competitive play.
Storage Optimization: The operating system is compressed to save space, and background disk activity (like hibernation and search indexing) is disabled to prevent stuttering.
Network Stability: Background bandwidth reservations and auto-tuning are disabled to prevent ping spikes while gaming.

Privacy

All native Windows tracking and data collection features are completely removed or blocked.

Tracking Blocked: A custom system hosts file blocks over 60 known Microsoft, Xbox, and third-party telemetry servers.
Telemetry Removed: Built-in diagnostics, error reporting, and cloud synchronization services are permanently disabled.
Strict Permissions: Background applications are blocked from accessing your file system, location, microphone, and camera by default.

Debloat

AtomOS removes unnecessary software that comes pre-installed with standard Windows.

No Bloatware: Over 50 pre-installed apps are removed, including Cortana, system widgets, and background Xbox services.
Edge & OneDrive Removed: Microsoft Edge and OneDrive are completely uninstalls and wiped from the system drive.
Clean Search: Web results and Bing integration are removed from the Windows search bar, making local file searches instantaneous.

Usability

The user interface is simplified to remove distractions and improve navigation speed.

Classic Context Menu: Restores the fast, traditional Windows 10-style right-click menu and removes unnecessary sharing options.
Clean Interface: Default desktop clutter is hidden. The Start Menu is stripped down to just Settings and File Explorer.
Streamlined Explorer: File Explorer is set to Compact Mode, file extensions are made visible, and unnecessary navigation pane folders are hidden.

Included Toolkit

AtomOS includes a set of standalone scripts on the desktop, allowing you to quickly toggle system features on or off without needing to reinstall the OS.

Toggle Defender: Quickly enable or disable Windows Defender.
Toggle Pagefile: Add or remove Virtual Memory (useful for heavy games like Unreal Engine 5 titles).
Toggle Mitigations: Switch CPU security mitigations on or off depending on your performance needs.
Restore Services: View current service states or reset them to Windows defaults.
